Gino Sarfatti (1912-1985)

 

Gino Sarfatti is one of the major light systems designers and producers of the 20th Century.

Born in Venice, he moved to Milan around 1939 where he began to create lights and soon opened his own company, Arteluce.

After 1945, he opened a gallery in Milan where he sold his avant-garde creations sought after by architects and decorators.

Sarfatti created hundreds of lights but also produced models by young talented Italian designers such as Franco Albini, Gianfranco Frattini, BBPR, Ico Parisi.

His projects included private mansions, cruise ships, theatres, like the Palazzo Bianco di Genova or the Teatro Regio di Torino.

In 1954 and 1955, he won the Compasso d’Oro for models 559 and 1055.

In 1973, his company was bought by Flos.
