KAZUHIDE TAKAHAMA

Kazuhide Takahama (1930-2010)
Born in Miyazaki, Japan, in 1930, Kazuhide Takahama studied architecture before joining Kazuo Fujioka’s studio.
In 1957, on the occasion of a visit to Italy, he met with Dino Gavina, the famous design entrepreneur, with whom he collaborated for many years perfecting a minimalist approach of design furniture.
Takahama was deeply influenced by modern art. The « Marcel » seating collection for Simon International was inspired by Marcel Duchamp, the « Saori » lighting series for Sirrah was a tribute to Lucio Fontana’s works.
In 1963, Takahama settled permanently in Italy and continued collaborations with major companies such as Cassina for which he created the « Antella » console or the « Mantilla » sofa for Paradisoterrestre.
Takahama also designed the façade of the Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna, leaving a lasting legacy in his country of adoption.
