JONATHAN DE PAS, D'URBINO, LOMAZZI

De Pas D’Urbino Lomazzi
Jonathan De Pas, Donato D’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi created their studio in 1966 in Milan where they made a decisive contribution to the 60s and 70s Italian design.
Deeply influenced by Pop Art, their approach was playful and humorous moving away from strict functionalism.
The « Joe » armchair (1970) for Poltronova, literally an oversized baseball glove, illustrates well their radical take on design furniture.
They were also noticed for their experiments in inflatable structures such as the Blow armchair and temporary houses at the 14th Milan Triennale and Osaka World Expo..
But in times of rebellion, they pursued a close collaboration with industrials allowing them to explore the possibilities offered by new technologies.
With Zanotta or BBB Bonacina, they created numerous modular pieces of furniture, the Galeotta, Ciuingam, Settebello remarkable among these.
They also produced Bryck for Longato, a combinatory bookcase system.
The « Lampiatta » table lamp for Stilnovo is one of their great achievement in the lighting domain.
In 1979, they received the Compasso d’Oro award for the « Sciangai » coat-hanger.
